On June 6, BGEF was delighted to award its first-ever Memorial Science Scholarship, donated by 1998 PHS graduate Dr. Gene Quinn, to Prairie High School senior Anna McCready. Dr. Quinn now lives and practices medicine and community health in Alaska. He made the donation in honor of the teachers who nurtured his love of science especially Mr. Lee Klein, Mrs. Mindy Smith, Mr. David Lemberg, Mr. Steve Beecroft, and Mrs. Kyle Henson.
Anna plans to attend a 4-year university to study environmental science, biology, or ecology to live out her passion to help the natural world. She credits in part PHS physics teacher Mr. Robert Schultz for sparking her love for science. It’s a love, she says, “I plan to carry with me through further education and for the rest of my life.”
