First Graders @ Captain Strong Primary School
The Foundation takes great delight every year in joining the national Read Across America effort. This inspiring (and super fun!) campaign was launched in 1998 by the National Education Association and is fueled to this day by book-loving educators everywhere. For more than ten years, BGeF has partnered with community organizations to get free books and the iconic Dr. Seuss hats into the hands of all Battle Ground Public School first graders.
This year the BGeF Board had the pleasure of working again with IQ Credit Union on the joy-filled feat of procuring, sorting, and delivering 854 hats & books to all of our first graders.

The valiant volunteers from IQCU Battle Ground
Grins met us everywhere we went! Below is BGeF Board member Rachel Combs making her special delivery to Daybreak Primary.

Our heartfelt thanks to IQCU and the marvelous first grade teachers and staff across Battle Ground for investing so wonderfully in our precious first graders. It’s our hope that holding their very own books in their hands while wearing these cheery hats will add another spark toward a lifelong love of reading.
And now we’ll send you off with a take-home of your own: the recipe for oobleck! (If you’re not familiar, this was the green gooey stuff Dr. Seuss’s young Bartholomew battled to save his kingdom from. Now famously made and enjoyed by kids of all ages–including our own students at Captain Strong Primary–see below for pics!)
Thanks to the community of supporters of Battle Ground Education Foundation for making this investment in our students possible. Thank you!
